Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582) a mystic saint known for her eroto-ecstatic suffering, often wrote in garden metaphors, but according to legend (one that all laypeople knew), she would sneak out during the darkest time of night to water all the plants in Ávila and surroundings, using her burning heart to make her way.
